Does there seem to be an extreme anti-Americanism that exists in the UK?

Of course not all British subjects hate us, but I've noticed it a lot lately when I watch soccer videos on YouTube. There are reams of vicious arguments between the British posters and non-British posters, usually started by the English. I asked a question about soccer hooligans, and was answered with: "IT'S FOOTBALL, NOT SOCCER, YOU YANKY TW**! WTH? There seems to be a widespread animosity toward the French and Americans especially. Explain?
