My 13 year old thinks she wants to be goth or emo i dint understand?

i dont understand i always have and always will love & support her whatever her choices are. were talking about a 13 yr. old that has always been on the presidents A team with grades. she is 1 of 3 people in the entire state that duke university & 4 other colleges have ask her to take the sat test for a full boat scollar ship. keep in mind 13 years old. she has planned on being a heart surgeon since age 6. all her own idea we dont know were this comes from. but as i say we her mother & I support her no mattrer what just help me figure out this goth & emo stuff. in my day the label would have been biker chic. but now I guess its called goth. please help me understand. thankyou . jerry
